Oregon Trail Landmarks

The last two days we have visited several of the Landmarks/monuments that are in the Scottsbluff area.  The pioneers looked for the landmarks while making their trek west on the Oregon trail.

Scotts Bluff -  Reaching these bluffs signaled they had completed 1/3 of their trip and it would mean going from the plains to mountainous terrain.

Many of these pictures were taken from the top of the bluff

I’m completely in awe of the pioneers having the courage to leave their homes and travel to the unknown in the heat, wind, dust, thunderstorms, hail and snow with many of them walking the entire trip. I couldn’t do it, I like all my comforts of home to much.

When we were getting ready to leave Courthouse & Jail Rock, we had a surprise coming up the dirt road. P1020993King on the right & Queen on the left were out for some exercise.  They were getting ready for a parade this weekend in Cheyenne.P1020997

Tomorrow we are leaving Scottsbluff and going to Glendo WY.

That was our day – Thanks for following along!

  1. Isn't it amazing that what we travel in minutes took the pioneers days to do! What a journey they took! ;)
