This morning we said GOODBYE to the night time trains and their whistle blowing and pulled out of Casper and headed to Lander WY via Hwy 220 and 287.
We stopped at “Independence Rock” where the pioneers carved or painted their names on the rock to note their passage. The goal was to reach the rock by 4th of July to ensure they could make the remainder of their trip before winter. The names are fading from the years of weather elements
The next landmark the pioneers looked for was “Devils Gate” The next landmark was “Split Rock”
AND THEN THE WIND – after turning onto Hwy 287 the wind hit and swayed us pretty good a few time.
We have seen this sign along with an arm (like at a railroad crossing) that can drop down over the highway to stop traffic. We have been told its for snow covering the Hwy but it ought to be for High Winds too.
We have also seen these wind fences along the roadside not sure if they are just to stop the snow from drifting to the roadways or to help block the wind also.
We are spending the night at “Pioneer RV Park” in Lander before we travel to Victor ID tomorrow to see the Tetons. It was very very windy when we got here. We have a great view out the front window of this golf course AND no trains……….Yeah!!
As windy as it was I can’t imagine the ball would go where you want it.Well that was our day – Thanks for traveling along with us!
Great pictures once again.
ReplyDeleteWe've only driven through Wyoming once, but we experienced what you did: WIND!
Thanks for the great pics. Sure wouldn't want to pull a wagon train thru some of those rocky places!
