Day 1 and Day 2

Monday -

The long awaited departure date finally arrived, we left home Monday meeting Chuck & Paulie at 8:00 am at our usual location on Hwy 101 at the Cotati grade, an hour earlier than our normal departure time, guess we were excited.  Making our way through the East Bay freeways with out any hassle we made our way to I-5 and headed south.  With two stops for puppy walks we arrived in Bakersfield at the Bakersfield RV Resort at 3:00 pm.

Dick and Carole had already checked in and set up and once we were finished setting up it was cocktail hour and relaxation to celebrate and wait for Don & Colleen to arrive at 7:15 pm.
Dinner at the The Crest Bar & Gill within the RV Park, one of many to come in the next four months. We have been told by many that we will be eating our way around the US so we needed to start the trip off right by eating.

Tuesday -

Today’s departure from Bakersfield ended up being a little later at 9:30 we drove east on Hwy 58 towards Needles.  Boy oh Boy is that a long and boring drive, guess we are not a fan of that many hours of desert with no trees, no building to speak of, no animals or anything else to look at to pass the time away.

We did make a rest stop to break it up, stretching our legs and walk the dogs and decided it was time for lunch or a snack so we sat at one of the tables in the shade and ate AGAIN.

We arrived in Needles about 3:30 and are staying at the Elks Lodge for the night, $18.00 for water and electric.  At 5:30 they were serving Tri-Tip, green salad, potatoes, grilled asparagus and green onions for dinner for $8.00 it sure sounded good to us so we ate AGAIN.  The local Elks sure were friendly and made us feel welcome.

After dinner it was watching the SF Giants on the outside TV unfortunately they lost 2-1 to Miami.
