Our son is a salesman for a company that sells Promotional Advertising Products, and over the years he has collected a very large collection of sample items, shirts, hats, cups/mugs, pens, notepads, tote bags, binders and so much more.
Do you need a hat or a mug with your logo on it??
So when he decided it was time to clear out the shelves in his garage and have a yard sale, we thought we might as well join in and get rid of some of our “treasures ” or should I say “junk”. Our daughter Lori and Jeff’s good friends Mickey & Heather joined in as well.
We all arrived at Jeff’s house around 7:00 AM this morning to start setting up and getting ready for the onslaught of customers at 8:00. Of course as soon as we started putting stuff out the people started coming.
It always amazes me how some people can be there for an hour or more, pick up every item, ask how much and put it back down and leave without buying a thing. Then there are the people that just drive by very slowly to see if there is anything they need and then keep on going.
You just never know what is one person’s junk turns into another persons treasures.
All in all we had a pretty good day, we all got rid of some of our items and made a few dollars at that. We took some of the unsold items over to the Thrift store and brought the rest back home for another sale on another weekend.

I have always found yard/garage sales to be more trouble than they are worth. As you noted, all those people looking and rummaging around.
ReplyDeleteWhen we got rid of our stuff when we went full time, we opted to cut out the middle process and take it all to the local charity outlets.
Hope you like them better than I.
We very reluctantly participated in our Park's garage sale 5 years ago & by the time it was over I knew I would never ever do that sort of thing again. I am not a wheeler dealer type of person & hate all that silly 'haggling' stuff. Some of the items we had marked at a dollar or 50 cents still brought out the rudeness & 'one-upmanship' in a lot of people & they would insist on haggling me to drop a 50 cent item to a quarter or less. Couldn't believe how people would come onto our property & then stand there arguing me with over the price of 10 cent spoon. I have absolutely no patience for that kind of mind set so there will be no more garage sales for this guy.......EVER!!!!

ReplyDeleteWe've had a few garage sales ourselves and have managed to get rid of a lot of unwanted junk that I would have, otherwise, carted to either the dump or a thrift store.

I hope it was successful and you were able to provide "treasures" for someone else and get rid of your "junk" at the same time.
By the way....that was alot of stuff you all were selling. Should have been a buyers market!!
